Love Can Overcome Hate

‘Water is the softest thing, yet it can penetrate mountains and earth. This shows clearly the principle of softness overcoming hardness.’ Lao Tzu

I stumbled upon this quotation some time ago. On first reading it I was a little untouched but after considering it more it made perfect sense and it can be used for many situations we all face in daily life.

Softness can overcome hardness. Love can overcome hate. Warmth can overcome coldness. Peace can overcome conflict. Acceptance can overcome rejection. Strength can overcome weakness. I could go on but I’m sure you get the picture!

So let us remember in times of negativity, positivity can prevail and save us. In times of darkness, we can choose to shine some of our light outwards towards people who wish to darken our days. We don’t need to meet people with more hardness, more darkness. We can in essence kill their negativity, kill their darkness with our light, love and compassion.

I dare you to give it a go. What have you got to lose? Next time someone tries to inflict some pain or darkness in your life, instead of hitting them right back and oh boy that is tempting! Simply shine your lightness in their face. You might manage to blind the bugger! But in all seriousness, you’ll feel better as hitting hardness with your own hardness only hurts us more.

Have you ever tried this concept?
